Where is the heel of a dog's front paw is it up by the dew claws or is it just behind the middle pad?

It's by the dew claws. If someone is talking about "the heel of the paw pad" they mean the back edge of the paw. But if you compare a human skeleton to a dog's, you'll see that the bones are very similar, and the dog is essentially walking on its toes all the time.
