it controls fuel delivery to high pressure part of pump in common rail engines
it keeps diesel pressure in the fuel rail so the injectors can operate it is located on the back of diesel pump it is round in appearance and has Brown two pin connector on it.
Underneath the fuel filter housing.
YES they do and all have this fault .you need go to diesel specicalty and skim and new gaskets
If it is a 2.7 L diesel, the first is in the fuel tank, the low and high pressure pumps are at the front of the engine high up, the high pressure pump feeds the common rail. The filter is to the rear of the near side of the engine easily visable and is between the pump in the tank and the low pressure pump in the fuel circuit. fuel pressure is very high so take great care.
For common rail diesel engines you can use a solvent that recommended by manufacturer and directly connect it to the high pressure diesel pump and run the engine for 45 -60 minutes
