Inner fender well on drivers side, below the ABS testing connector. It's mounted to a heat sink. When changing, it's easier to pull the heatsink assembly then replace the ICM with the whole unit out of the vehicle. Otherwise you can easily loose those tiny screws used to hold the ICM to the heatsink.

Regarding a model 1997,2 liter sonata, there is not an ignition control module as such. Ignition control comes from the ECM (ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT) through the Ignition Power Transistor (often called Igniter) and then to the Ignition coil.I do not have any information on the 1.8 or the 3.0 liter models.
The engine computer is the ignition module.
AnswerSince 1996, engine ignition control has been handled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).The PCM has direct control over the ignition coils / coilpack (or coil-on-plug on some engines) - so the need for a 'distributor' has gone away.Coilpacks cost about $75Sidebar: without a distributor, the engine timing is also totally handled by the PCM.See "Related Questions" below for information about Ignition Control Modules on 1986-1995 Taurus/Sables.On a 1996 Ford Taurus the ignition control module is part of the drivetrain control module. To change the ignition control module you have to change out the computer. It is located behind the motor on the passenger side of the engine compartment. Look for a screw holding in a wiring plug with a dozen or so wires. The drivetrain control module has a couple of nuts holding it in place and looks like a cdrom when removed. Good luck. John
the little gray box on top the a.c. compressor or by the radiator.
it should be located under the battery on the inside of the front fender.
In the distributor, buy a new one and read the instructions
The Ignition Control Module on a 1996 Ford Thunderbird 4.6 is located inside the EFI or Electronic Fuel Injector. The EFI is the carburetor. Look for a cord that has a connector that resembles an HD Cable.
its located on driver side head on top of block little black module with plugwire running out of it
On the 96 Tahoe, 5.7L V8 the ignition control module is on a plate in front of the distributor on the passenger side of the engine. It is next to the coil pack. Original Answer: It is in the dist. remove cap and you will see it.
