lock --unlock--arm&disarm alarm system , ) on most systems including the GIFFORD that's on my 1989 silverado 4x4 z71 Re-named "Black Beuty" ,

FYI -there are NO 'remote start engines' , it's merely an aftermarket , (great invention ) remote electronic signal , that tells you car to start the same way your key does, only difference is that it is bi-passing your ignition switch .. I will try to attach pics of my 412 HP 1989 , Black Beuty

You need to find out if the fire or fuel quits and go from there If your Subie is a newer model (mine is 2015) you have to unlock it with the remote-equipped key, and start it with the same key. just buy a remote start for it -- trust me -- it will save you grief in the long run. Your key is likely not being read because of the amount of use in the ignition, the remote start simulates the resistor in your key to the security system so it can remote start the car. I just use the remote start when the key wont work.
