There are many disputes as to who invented the telescope. But in my personal opinion it is completely inconclusive because different formations of telescope have been created over time. You can simply not find the rightful and true inventer.

The Gran Telescopio CANARIAS, is a 10.4m telescope with a segmented primary mirror and a high performance. It is located in one of the top astronomical sites in the Northern Hemisphere: the Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos (La Palma, Canary Islands). The "First Light" event took place on July 13st, 2007 Scheduled for completion around 2017, the The Giant Magellan Telescopewill have the resolving power of a 24.5-meter (80 foot) primary mirror-far larger than any other telescope ever built.

Telescopes come in many types and sizes, and some are very specialized for particular science projects. The most common types fall into two types: optical, and radio telescopes. Optical telescopes can be refractors, or lens type. The lens, like a hand magnifier lens, bends and focuses the light to a small, intense spot. Other lenses in the eyepiece enlarge the image to many times bigger than the unaided eye can see. These can range from small Opera glasses up to the 40 inch Yerkes Observatory telescope. Binoculars, telephoto camera lenses, spyglasses, rangefinders, and even microscopes are all types of refractor telescopes. Optical telescopes also can be reflectors, or mirror type. Most of the very large telescopes in observatories, and on the Hubble Space Telescope and many other exploration vehicles, and spy satellites use mirrors. They are much less expensive to make than refractor lenses, and can be larger. Some solar telescopes capture the light and look at sunspots and prominences. Most of the time special instruments like spectroscopes break the light into colors to find the chemistry in stars. X-ray, Ultraviolet and infrared wavelength special scopes on earth, in balloons, and in space vehicles broaden the range of detection. Radio telescopes use large metal dishes shaped like telescope mirrors to gather electromagnetic wave energy and find out about the universe that visible light does not or cannot show.

Large Binocular Telescope (LBT)

Essentially a pair of enormous telescopes bolted together, the $120 million Large Binocular Telescope (LBT) combines the light from two mirrors to simulate a telescope with a single larger mirror. The LBT's components were crafted in the United States, Italy and Germany, and assembled at 10,400 ft. on southeastern Arizona's Mount Graham. In October 2005, LBT took its first image of space--what astronomers call "first light"--using only one primary mirror. Later this year, the second mirror will become operational. Says mechanical engineer Shawn Callahan, "It's a very exciting time to be working on top of this mountain."

Is the difference between a refracting telescope and a reflecting telescope?

A reflecting telescope uses mirrors while refracting telescopes uses lens. The refracting telescope also had chromatic aberration and bad resolution while the reflecting telescope had none of these.

How is a radio telescope different from a refracting telescope?

A radio telescope detects light in the form of radio waves and a refracting telescope detects light in the visible wavelengths

What is a refracting and a reflecting telescope?

A refracting telescope is a type of telescope that has a large thin lense at the front and a smaller thicker lense at the end where the eyepiece is. Refracting telescopes use lenses unlike reflecting telescopes that use mirrors to reflect the light. This is a good image of a refracting and reflecting telescope: [See related link]
