Push the button on the end of the gearshift lever ( P R N etc. ) if you want to turn
off the overdrive feature ( O/D OFF will light in the gauge cluster )
No such part.No such part.
On the of the shift arm. On the end of the shift arm.
The button is located on the left side of the gear shift. (right under the main shift button)
it is on the transfer case
I assume that is the button that allows you to turn off or turn on the overdrive for the transmission ( my Ford Explorer also has a button on the end of the gear shift lever for that purpose )
Press the shift lock override button next to the shifter. Make sure you push it as far down as you can.
the shifter lock need to be lubed to override the shift lock press hard on the brake and move shift over to unlock and pull down this will override it but not fix it remove shift covers and lube shift lock and should be fine
I'm not sure about a Pontiac, but on my mom's Ford Escort it is located under the all the plastic housing where the gear shift is mounted on the floor. It should be located somewhere near your safety interlock override button, as this is attached to the solenoid itself. You can use the override button to bypass the solenoid if it quits working so that you can get at least get your car in gear until you get a chance to replace solenoid.
On the 2000 Ford Explorer XLS model, it is a push button feature that is located on the Gear shift on the Steering column.
Because to press a button to shift a button is like pressing shift to press hard.
Sounds like your shift interlock mechanism is jammed. Assuming yours has a floor-mounted shifter, there's usually an override button on those, which requires you to pull up the rubber boot around the shift column.
There is a small button labelled "shift lock override" just in front of the shift lever, just push it down and hold then you'll be able to shift it to neutral. Thanks, I did find that button and it would not work. I pulled the shift cover apart and found that it did not hit the little button in front of it that it looks like it should hit. It has a little arm that should hit the other button but it doesnt line up. I pushed the button that it should hit and it released the thumb button on the shifter so that it goes in a little farther and would shift. I have to find out how it is supposed to be hooked up so it will work. thanks again.
