I am assuming the "multi-function" switch is the TURN SIGNAL/HI-LO BEAM/WIPER CONTROL SWITCH. It is located on the left side of the steering column.

On my '02, it is plugged into the dash side if the multifunction switch (the turn signal, headights switch) and you have to remove the top of the plastic steering column cover to see it. It is a black, plastic cube. Another location used (as my multifunction swith may not be original) is screwed to the bottom right side of the steering column bracket under the dash panel by the driver's knees.
