Actually, if this is a 4WD it will be located on the drivers side, upper rear, of the transfer case. It will be the only plug type connector in the wiring harness at the rear of the transfer case. Symptoms of a faulty VSS sensor will be the locking and unlocking of the torque converter especially in drive/overdrive, transmission slip, and an erratic/bouncing speedometer. The speedometer, sometimes, will move towards zero as you apply throttle and may read fairly accurate when coasting. It would be wise to test reference voltage due to the price of a VSS which falls in the $70 to $80 range. Your issue may reside in the wiring harness itself or a bad ground of the wiring harness.
