There are two misconceptions in this question.
Firstly, there is no river in Australia called the Murray-Darling. They are two separate rivers with their sources thousands of kilometres apart, and together make up the Murray-Darling river system.
Secondly, Hattah is in Victoria, not New South Wales, and it is not on the Murray but slightly south of it.
Hattah is located about 70 km south of Mildura.
The Murray River of Australia is the longest river in Oceania. Many websites will incorrectly state that the longest river is the Murray-Darling but this is not a river. These are two separate rivers (the Murray and the Darling) which form part of a vast river system known as the Murray-Darling river system.
There is no such river as the Murray Darling River. The two rivers are separate rivers, with their sources thousands of kilometres apart. The Darling River is a tributary of the Murray, and the Murray empties into the Southern Ocean. Together, the two rivers make up the Murray-Darling River System, which is a completely different feature, geographically, from just a river. Major Thomas Mitchell recorded the aboriginal name for the Murray River as "Millewa". It is known today that they also called it Tongala. The aboriginal name for the Darling River was "Barka".
The Murray River and the Darling River are two completely separate rivers in Australia. Together, they make up the Murray-Darling Basin, from which much of southeastern Australia derives its water supply. There is no other name for these rivers.
There is no such river as the Murray Darling River. The two rivers are quite separate and distinct, with the Darling a tributary of the Murray. The Darling River was named by Charles Sturt early in 1829. During an expedition in which he traced the Macquarie River, Sturt arrived suddenly at what he described as "a noble river". This was the Darling, which he named after Governor Darling. The Murray River was originally called the Hume when it was discovered by Hume and Hovell in 1824. (Whether it was named by Hovell for his partner Hume, or by Hume for his father, remained a point of contention between the two for some time.) It became the Murray late in 1829 when Sturt discovered that the Murrumbidgee flowed into it, and charted the river. Sturt named it the Murray after Sir George Murray, Secretary of State for the Colonies at that time.
The Murray River has no other name, except for its nickname of the Mighty Murray.
