It is behind the back door and have a switch.
I just had the same problem with my 1998 It was the brake light switch. It connects into the neutral safety switch on top of the brake pedal. The part was 14 dollars at autozone. I would check all the fuses first though sometimes that is the simplest.
It's on the front of the block, near the exhaust manifold. A single wire attaches to it.
Passenger side right wall under the dash. You need to pull up some carpet to get to it.
I am in no way a pro at this or even sure about this, but I have a 98 Metro LSI, and have had problems with my car starting because it doesnt alway recognize that the clutch is in. I believe that is what you are asking about. If you look near the top of Clutch peddle you will find a couple of wires that go to the switch and these on my car come loose and sometimes have a bad connection. Since you have to get under the steering wheel it is not the easiest access area, but there are no panels to remove so you should be able to trace the wires to the switch if it isn't the switch that is connected to the top of the clutch. Hope that helps
The only way to fix the dimmer switch is to replace it I have tried cleaning it lubercating it. nothing will fix it for good .so i had to replace it. It is a factory item.
