If you lean over a fender and look at the front of the valve covers on both sides of
The engine. You will notice that 1 valve cover is futher forward then the other.
That will be #1 cylinder on that head. The first spark plug up front.
Be advised that the 345 International V8 is timed by #8 cylinder NOT #1 cylinder.
The #8 cylinder is the rear most cylinder on the passenger side.
8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 front
345's don't have a timing chain, cam is gear driven.
My 66 has a naturally aspirated 345 International v8

What year, which V8?
I owned a 1978 scout with the 345 V8. #1 cylinder is the 1st plug and wire on the right bank, as on the Chevy V8. Follow it back to the distributor. Right bank is 1-3-5-7, left bank is 2-4-6-8. 18436572 is the firing order.
13-14 around town, 14-16 17 if your lucky on the highway
Passenger side, first cylinder up front is number one.
the number 5 cylinder on a 1998 Ford Expedition 4.6 liter v8 is the first one you see on the drivers side front.
Dodge V8 cylinder numbering. Pass side 2-4-6-8 Driver 1-3-5-7
Number one cylinder for v8 and v6 is always the front cylinder on the head that sticks further out on the front of the engine. The heads are offset on all v6 and v8 engines.
A couple different options were available. V8's were 304 and 345. 196 slant 4 was also available.
