Firing order 1342 OK but where is #1 on cap
Depending on maker, it should have a number 1 raised letter on the cap
where ever you want it to be just make sure you put the motor at top dead center on cylinder number one and stab the distributer where the rotor points at on the cap is number one and just go clock wise order and use the Chevy firing order
first run number one cylinder to top dead center on the compression stroke. then set the distributer till the firing tip on the roder is pointing directly at the number 1 spark plug wire on the distributer cap.
should be in a straight line from center of the distributer cap to the #1 cylinder, or pointing at the #1 cylinder
each electrode sticking up out of the top of the distributer cap that you attach the plug and coil wires to, is called a tower. So a distributer cap will have more than one tower. If it has a center one, that will be the coil wire tower, and the ones surrounding it in a circle will be the plug wire towers.
it will be facing the number one cylinder plug wire on distributer cap,#1 cyl will be the one at the front on the driver side
distributer cap, low octane gas, or spark plugs i would do the distributer cap first.
well this could be a number of things... cracked distributer cap? rotor wore out? cam problem? distributer gear wore out? timing chain jumpin? one of these would be my first guess
sounds like you have moisture in the distributer next time it wont start, remove distributer cap, and using a hair dryer, dry inside distributer cap,and inside distributer
remove the number one plug, insert a long 1/4" extension in the plug hole, roll the engine manually until the piston comes up to the top of the cylinder, you will feel it touching the extension, remove the distributer cap the rotor button should be pointing a strait line to the number one cylinder and also to the proper location on the cap, also some caps are marked on the under side of them where number one is located
Change it. Don't be a dumb.
