as you open the hood and look down, it's right on top of the engine block right in the middle on the back side. if it was a snake it would bite you.
If the handle is broken off, just look for the little yellow plastic piece on top of the engine block and you won't get bit

Timing is done by chain with an automatic chain tensioner. The accessory drive is a belt located on the front of the engine.
Use the wrench that came with the car. Turn counter clockwise.

Starting with the 2002 Ford Explorer , the 4 door doesn't have an automatic transmission fluid level dipstick
On the left side of the dashboard lower you will find a rectangle with a small square box opening , pull this and the door will open exposing the fuse box.

There is no dipstick, the transmission is a completely sealed system. You have to take to dealer for service.
The Dipstick is located to the left of the battery (if facing car while looking under the hood) It is hidden , but white and has the letters ATF on it.
No dipstick, there is a fill plug on the left side near the axle shaft.
If it is automatic, you should be putting the manufacturer recommended ATF (automatic transmission fluid) into it, NOT gear oil. There will be a plug on the bottom somewhere to drain it, and you will likely fill it from the dipstick tube in the engine compartment. Check your owners manual, or find it online, or call and ask a dealer about what you should be putting in the transmission and where.
