Oil filter in an Infinity QX4 1997 is found underneath the engine. The plastic cover that hides the whole engine from below should be removed and there the filter can be seen.

Normally you should be able to crawl under a the car and look around until you familiarize your surroundings. If you find the Oil Pan then..... you find the oil plug. For the QX4, You are going to have to take the plastic cover off the underside of the SUV in order to expose the oil pan. Hope this helps!
