The first oxygen sensor which is in front of the engine when you open the hood called (bank # 2). The second sensor locates between the back side of the engine and the wall called ( bank # 1). It is very hard to replace if you have a big hand b/c there is not enoght room . The third sensor locates near the catalic convert. You only can see it if you are under the car. Most of the oxygen sensor go bad is the ones between the wall and the back side of the engine (Bank #1). Do not confuse! Bank # 2 locates next to the FAN/RADIATOR. That is an oxygen sensor, it tells the computer how rich or lean the engine is running on bank 1. The computer uses this info to control how much fuel the engine gets.
The oxygen sensor bank 1 is located in the exhaust manifold. The oxygen sensor bank 2 on the 1996 BMW 328is is located in the head pipe.

Bank one sensor two refers to the oxygen sensor. The bank one sensor two oxygen sensor is on the front side of the engine, after the catalytic converter.
Cylinders 1,3, and 5, the sensor after the catalytic converter. Find the exhaust pipe coming from the front of the vehicle and follow it until you see the O2 sensor after the catalytic converter.
