It's basically GM's method of cheating on an emissions test. The secondary air pump adds ambient air to the exhaust in order to dilute what comes out the tailpipe. . . making it seem like it pollutes less than it does. Nice, huh?
What tools are needed to replace secondary air pump on 2001 Oldsmobile intrique
in the front under radiator
it is on the right side fender behind the battery
Directly in front of the driver's side front tire inside fender well.
I've got a better question, why is this question in the Chevy venture forum ?
It is the round pump that you will see under the cowling in front of the left tire. It is approx 6 in in diameter.
If it has one, you would find the secondary air pump driven off of the accessory drive belt up in front of the engine.
Below the radiator, passenger side. Best reached from under the front of the vehicle.
It is a secondary air injection control solonoid for 2001+ gm's. It's purpose is to activate 2 control valves (1 on each bank) and an air injection pump to inject fresh, clean air into the exhaust stream, allowing for cleaner emissions. When the solonoid fails, exhaust returns into the pump, creating heat damage and destryoing the $175.00 pump. So I suggest you pay the $19 to $35.00 for the solonoid!!!
It is on top behind the driver side of the radiator in between that and the engine... Real easy to find if you get in there and look
Yes.
There is a technical service bulletin for this code. This concern may be attributed to water that may have collected in the AIR pump or the vent solenoid and frozen or corroded the pump. Replace the AIR pump and install a new inlet hose and solenoid tube assembly.
