If it is a Shure wireless handheld microphone, the serial number is located in the battery compartment. Unscrew and remove the casing that covers the battery, and look on the side of the tab that the battery rests against. There should be a white label with the serial number on it.
The Shure SM58® unidirectional (cardioid) dynamic vocal microphone has a rugged construction, that even with rough handling will perform consistently.
Last user wrote...."he used a shure UNISPHERE"MarkKlingon:To be more specific, he used a Shure U565SD Classic Unisphere Vocal Microphone. The Shure U565SD was the predecessor to the famous Shure SM58, with nearly the same specs. As of today, 04/06/11, Shure still makes the U565SD as a part of their "Classic Collection" of vintage microphones. If it was good enough for Freddie... hey, it's a kinda magic.
From the concert footage I've seen, he uses a Shure SM58, except for during Unplugged, in which he used an Audix, I'm not sure of the model though.
John, like the majority of vocalists, uses Shure SM58's. He used a 58 on his Where The Light Is CD/DVD. He also, sometimes, uses Shure SM86's [1] [1] Source: http://mixonline.com/livesound/tours/audio_john_mayer_counting/ Hope this helps =)
Personally I recommend the RODE NT1-A. It retails at about $240 or so. For the sound I would compare it to mics costing over a thousand. I've heard it on many sessions from rap to metal and it has never let me down. Also, if you are on a budget you can go with the Shure SM58.
