The slave cylinder on a 1988 Ranger can not be repaired. The cylinder will have to be replaced, then the system bled.
In a 1988 Pontiac Grand Am you will find the clutch slave cylinder located on the flywheel. You will need to remove the hush panel from the driver's side foot well to gain access to the clutch slave cylinder.

you must remove the clutch slave cylinder and line. Then unbolt the starser and install the new one
Its hydraulic ,you cant,check your slave cylinder to see if its leaking,its located thru a rubber cover on side of transmission,if leaking replace and bleed,also check clutch master cylinder,if not leaking,then you might need a new clutch kit.
