91 Lincoln Continental started hi pitched rattle noise under car now car shifts through gears with ease but no movement?
I asked the Lincoln Mercury dealer about this and they said that for optimum performance I should use a minimum of 91 octane but that lower grades right down to 87 octane regular can be used. When octane grades lower than 91 are used, the ECC (engine control computer) will automatically detune the engine to prevent knock although you will have a slight power loss. Why will a 91 Lincoln Town Car start with a screwdriver touching the solenoid but not with the key manually?
Not to bash on the last answer, but, the starter solenoid probably isn't at fault here. If it will start with the screwdriver then the starter solenoid is functioning. It either does or it doesnt. The answer lies in circuitry back from the solenoid to the ignition switch. You could have a bad ignition switch or neutral/safety switch. Answer Defective starter solenoid.
