i just took mine out today it was on the side passenger side under the hood if you lay on your back you should see it just above a pipe that T's off. It only has two bolts that go up holding it in. Make sure you unhook your battery before taking it off. And to save you some time the bolts on mine was 9/16 so try that first.

I have a 1979 corvette and had the same problem. what I did was change the starter and the battery. it starts better than my new car.
