The starter on a 2003 Cadillac CTS is located in the engine compartment directly behind the alternator. The starter faces the firewall with the starter solenoid on top of the starter.
The starter location on a 2002 GMC Envoy is on the passenger side of the engine compartment. It is just below the manifold. Both the starter and starter solenoid are located here.
