∙ 7y agoThere is no story of Jesus' birth in the Book of Isaiah, which was written before he was born.
Nevertheless, Burton L. Mack, author of Who Wrote the New Testament, says he often sees students in the classrooms of the School of Theology at Claremont use a trick that seems to come naturally when studying The Bible. One can ask any question of the Bible and get some kind of answer. He says, "At first the study of a text may not seem to support a traditional Christian conviction, or the answer one hopes to find in the Bible. But with a little ingenuity, one can set up the comparison again with other emphases and make the answer come out right. " So it is with the Book of Isaiah, when some people look for a story of the birth of Jesus, when that story is not really there. In line with the Septuagint mistranslation, they translate the Hebrew for 'young woman' as 'virgin' in Isaiah 7:13-14, on the assumption that in this way the passage now refers to Jesus. Isaiah 9:6-7 does refer to a child who was born (already), but this was the child who would grow to become King Hezekia.
