The intake air temperature sensor is connected to the mass airflow sensor as one unit, it's at the beginning of the air intake tube just after the air cleaner. The sensor with six wires running out of it
Its part of the MAF sensor. In 98 they integrated it.
the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor is located in the air cleaner to throttle body supply tube ( big rubber tube ) close to the engine throttle body.
On your 1998 Ford Explorer Sport : The mass air flow sensor is between your engine air filter and the big rubber engine air intake tube
Bank 2 is the drivers side of the engine in your Ford Explorer Sensor 2 is after the catalytic converter ( downstream )

Check connector and wire for shorts/breaks.
Bank 1 is the passenger side of the engine in a Ford Explorer Sensor 2 is in the exhaust after the catalytic converter ( downstream )
The wires are Gray (from the PCM), and Gray-Red, (from fuse-box)
