If it is anything like the 2000, then as you look at the engine from the front, it is on the right side of the engine near the top. There is no other switch above it and it is a simple clip that slides to the side and allows the switch to be pulled out. I changed mine and the gauge in the cockpit worked and the fans came on. The starter kill wire is blue and red and is located in the ignition switch harness on the 2001 Volkswagen Jetta. The wire can be disconnected at the harness or at the starter itself.Ê

the switch for hazard lght is located in the dash . the switch is the "flasher relay " so it controls the turnsignals and hazards. just pry the switch out and un plug it . install new switch . but you might want to check with your local VW dealership there is a recall on those switches . =)

2001 VW jetta the radiator cooling fans run all the time they run soon you turn the ignition switch on with cold engine. if the engine is hot and you turn the ignition switch off the stay on till battery goes dead.
CALL VW! I just had a problem with my 2001 Jetta Wolfsburg (1.8T). The brake light switch is on RECALL. You might be able to get it fixed for NOTHING. My brake lights weren't working, and I called the dealership, and I had the problem fixed (no cost to me) within a week. FYI- there is also a recall on the hazard light switch.
