If it is anything like the 2000, then as you look at the engine from the front, it is on the right side of the engine near the top. There is no other switch above it and it is a simple clip that slides to the side and allows the switch to be pulled out. I changed mine and the gauge in the cockpit worked and the fans came on. CALL VW! I just had a problem with my 2001 Jetta Wolfsburg (1.8T). The brake light switch is on RECALL. You might be able to get it fixed for NOTHING. My brake lights weren't working, and I called the dealership, and I had the problem fixed (no cost to me) within a week. FYI- there is also a recall on the hazard light switch.
