In the relay box under the hood.
The thermo fan sensor is on the thermostat housing, right below the distributer.
The camshaft position sensor is inside the distributor. The crankshaft position sensor is in the top of the bell housing on the driver side.
The radiator fan switch on a 1989 Jeep Cherokee is located on the driver's side fender wall inside the engine compartment. It is a box about 1inch by 1inch just below the battery location.
check the TVSV Thermo vacume switch valve.
Look on the back on the transfer case. There should be one wire running from it. That's your speed sensor. -- Blake.
check for spark and fuel pressure I just had this problem with a 1989 Cherokee and had to have a Cranking Sensor installed.

It will bolt in, but the intake on the 1996 is different and the cylinder head on the 1996 does not have the temp sensor for the gauge in the same location.

The cold start sensor is the top sensor on the right side of the thermostat housing as you are looking at the engine from the front of the vehicle. It is 22mm.
The Oxygen Sensor on a 1989 Cherokee 4.0L is on the exhaust pipe on the left side of the engine just below the exhaust manifold. You can see it from above but you must replace it from below. It is pretty easy to reach. I recently changed mine and it took only 10 minutes using an O2 sensor wrench.
Try pushing the turn signal lever forward, or pulling it toward you. This is a common location for the high beam switch.
