the thermostat is located on the left upper side of the water pump, its a little hard to get to, you will need a 1/2in open end wrench to get it off, its a little hard but with patients you can get it, just follow your upper radiator hose that curves back down into your water outlet housing and you will see it with a bypass hose connected to the water pump....good luck, buy a 195 degree stock thermostat and a water outlet gasket because they usually dont come with a new one, and remember coil side of the thermostat goes into the block....good luck...paul matula

The thermostat housing is located at the front of the engine just beneath the distributor.
From the radiator top hose follow back to where it enters the block. remove the hose and the thermostat housing and the thermostat is inside.
Follow the top radiator hose from the radiator , where it connects to the engine is where the engine thermostat is located
low coolant If your coolant levels are fine the next thing would be is to install a new thermostat.
If you follow the top radiator hose from the radiator , it connects to a housing that is bolted to the front of the engine . The engine cooling thermostat is INSIDE the housing on your 2001 Ford Mustang , 3.8 liter V6 engine
In a 1989 Ford Mustang 5.0 The AUTOMATIC transmission fluid level dipstick is located in the engine compartment , near the firewall , just to the passenger side of the engine The manual transmission does not have a dipstick

Normally under the dash above drivers feet.
The thermostat is located in the water neck where the top radiator hose goes on. Its mounted in an O-ring, just pop it out with a screwdriver and replace it.
