It's on the thermostat. If you have the V6 engine, it's actually on the back driver's side, beneath the exhaust manifold; a real pain to get at! It's actually easier to access from beneath the car. If you try this, remember to use jack stands to support the car when you're under it!
The thermostat can be found inside of the thermostat housing. The thermostat housing is located on the front of the engine.
Under the hood
Find the top radiator hose and follow it back to the thermostat housing, which should be located towards the fron of the engine on the intake manifold.
On all cars it is located on the throttle plate. That is where the air intake and throttle linkage are located.
The thermostat housing is where the lower radiator hose attaches to the engine. remove the hose and the housing (2 bolts) and the thermostat is in there (it may come out with the housing)
I am pretty sure its located under the goose neck that's at the end of the top raidator hose
On a Ford Contour , 2.5 litre V6 engine : firewall 1-----2-----3 4-----5-----6 front of vehicle > driver
It is just to the passenger side of the thermostat housing.

On a Cherokee the thermostat is under the housing that the upper radiator hose hooks to. On a Grand Cherokee with the 4.7L it is under the lower hose attachment housing.
