when you remove the engine cover, you see small sphere closest to your alternator. Remove that sphere (vacuum reservoir) and you see outlet pipe from Main radiator. Remove the plastic elbow and you see the thermostat on your engine.

The thermostat is located under the metal housing on the engine end of the top radiator hose. Regards:

Follow the upper radiator hose that is going towards the block. That is where your thermostat is located so if you are facing the engine. It'll be on your right hand side just below the air intake
according the repair manual the thermostat is located on the bottom of the waterpump. You can access it underneath the front of the car. follow the radiator hose coming off the bottom of the radiator.
Should be located behind the front driver's side bumper cover.

why do you think you need to change the clutch, the gearboxes on the petrol engined cars will be differant to the diesels. You would only have to change the clutch if it was not working
Inside the housing where your bottom radiator hose connects to the engine
Do not leave more than 60,000 on the diesel 1.9 TDi version, otherwise you may be looking at a £3,000 bill to replace the top of the engine.
