Use the following settings: Jet needle groove in the 3 rd position.Idle speed should be 1700rpm.Pilot screw setting 1983 model: 1-1/8 turns out.For the 1984 and 1985 models: Pilot screw setting is 1-1/4 turns out.
The optimal setting for a pilot screw on almost any bike is one and one half full turns out from the closed position.

My Chilton Volvo repair manual ( 1970 to 1983 ) shows ( DOT 4 brake fluid )
It's factory set. There's a air screw that's accessible and you can play with it to sync it with RPM. Get yourself a chilton manuel. If that fails; drill out cap that covers the fuel screw(passenger side above the ERG on the carb) and reset the factry setting by turning the uncapped screw. Be very careful when drilling or you'll rip /tear up the screw(and then your screwed). BE forewarned that your emmission values will change accordingly.
