A 1979 Chevrolet pickup does not have a timing belt, it has a timing chain. The chain will last the life of the engine and is normally replaced during an engine overhaul.

A 2.0L DOHC Suzuki motor. Which is what Chevy used in alot of the Trackers. And YES valve damage will happen. Mine bent six valves when the upper chain guides broke.

If the engine has "coil packs" then its has to. Does your engine have a distibortor cap or coil packs?

The heater blower motor speed resister is burned out.
Take the distributor cap off. After you do that check to see if the rotor cap is spinning and if it isn't then the timing chain snapped. Also check to see if your motor has compression.
Replace bulbs? Check dimmer rheostat for open circuit Check fuse for parking/tailights
Start at 1 1/2 turns from "seat" position and adjust each screw equally until you get the best and smoothest idle
