We just replaced one on a 2001 Impala. It is located in the hub assembly. But, the sensor wasn't the problem. It was a wiring problem. You need to have the codes checked (it requires a Tech II code reader-The ones at O'reilly won't read it). This will tell you which wheel is causing the problem. The sensors can be checked with an ohm meter. On a 2001 the ohms should read between 850-1350 ohms. CAUTION, do NOT put the ohm meter on the wiring harness side of th plug going up to the computer on the car (possible to do some expensive damage)! The sensor is in the hub side after it is unplugged! The sensor should also put out Approximately 100 milli volts while rotating the wheel by hand. GM has some wiring repair kits for this problem.
On a 2004 Chevy Impala, the traction control sensor is located in the ABS pump module. On the driver side of the car, the sensor is located at the left center of the engine compartment with black wires hanging from it.
