Unless there are problems with the transmission you do not need to do anything with transmission filter. Although I am not familiar with your specific transmission, Subaru includes a drain plug on the side of their transmissions. Drain fluid once a year and refill. Mine is the 4 speed and it takes 4 quarts to refill. This does not by any means remove all of the oil, but you will remove any sediment in the pan and will add fresh seal conditioners. Do this yearly and, barring abuse, your transmission will last the life of the car. Your transmission uses a special fluid that sells for about $5 to $8 a quart. Do not use standard Dexron type fluid.
The transmission oil filter is remotely located on the 2004 model. Follow the transmission oil lines and they will lead you to a removable kick panel on the drivers side. Remove this panel and you will find your spin on trans oil filter. Cheers! The transmission oil filter is remotely located on the 2004 model. The trans filter is located inside the trans. You have to remove the pan from the bottom of the trans. You should be able to see it when the pan has been removed.
The Transmission filter is on the Inside of the trans. The only way you can change it is to take trans apart.
Gas Tank
Automatic trans drain plug is on left side of pan(for atf). differential oil drain plug is directly below differential. Manual transmission has only one plug(below differential in center of trans)
