A 2000 Chevrolet Lumina has a modulator valve located on the side of the transmission. It is designed to control pressure inside the transmission and adjust shifting.
The modulator is located just above the starter on the side of the transmission, it has a vacuum hose attached to it. The solenoid is located in the transmission, you have to remove the transmission pan to remove it.

Lift hood. Locate area between engine and transmission, look down, follow the vacuum line from the maifold to just above the starter. The unit screwed into the side of the tranny with the vacuum line coming out is the modulator.
