Most vehicle manufacturers now put the regulator inside the alternator.
Some look really bad and some don't look so bad i am not a big fan of them. If yours doesn't look good and is not in good condition don't take your date in that car borrow one. you can see some 1986 Buick Skyhawk on google and you can easily see some are in good condition and some aren't.
