Intake manifold vacuum leak.
Look in the engine compartment from the drivers side , you will see the big rubber engine air intake tube connecting to the throttle body at the top / front of the engine . The throttle position sensor is on the drivers side of the throttle body
it is a throttle position sensor, should be located on the rubber part that goes to your air filter box.
I had a stuck throttle on my 1996 Passport. The throttle cable had a piece of protective black rubber around the throttle cable between the outer cable covering and where the cable connects to the throttle body. The rubber had began to come apart and some of it was getting inside the throttle cable covering, causing the throttle cable to bind. I removed the rubber piece and cleaned out the cable by covering it with GOOF-OFF and then sliding the cable in and out until my cleaning rag was clean when I wiped off the cable. I did not replace the rubber piece and have had no problems since.
should be very easy. all you should have to do is disconnect the rubber air hose that comes from the air box to the intake manifold. the throttle position sensor(tps) is bolted to the outside of the throttle body. should only be 2 screws and some linkage. it is a small plastic piece that has a spring loaded metal tab that is actuated by the gas pedal
on a 1992 Camry the map sensor is attached to the center of the firewall by a bracket and has a rubber vacuum hose connected to it.
On the top of the engine right behind the large rubber air intake hose. It is a 3" black peice held with two screws.
Look directly under the throttle body plenum where the large rubber air intake coming from your air filter box attaches to the throttle body on the left side of your engine. There will be an electrical plug attached to a cylindrical part with two screws attaching it. That should be the idle air control valve. To the left of that, on the back side of the throttle body neck at the butterfly valve is the TPS, I think.
The big rubber engine air intake tube will go from the engine air filter to the engine throttle body
The throttle position sensor is under the drivers seat. Pull the locking latch above the gas cap doors release( front left on drivers seat) it has a yellow colored rubber coating on it. Push the seat back out of the way and open the engine access hatch there under the carpet flap. Once its open and put aside out of the way you can look and see the throttle body. It has the air intake connected to the front (approx. 3" in diameter) and three small 1/4" vacuum hoses on top. On the right side of the throttle body you will find the throttle position sensor. It is fastened by two screws and has a wire connector with two wires attached to it. It is dome shaped and a black colored plastic material.
If you remove the large (3-4" diameter) rubber tube that starts at the airbox and ends at the engine intake, you will see the throttle plate a couple inches inside the bore of the throttle body (where the hose was attached).
It's underneath the throttle body on the engine, take the big rubber hose off the air cleaner box and the other end attaches to the throttle body.
it should be located on the throttle body (where the rubber air duct attaches to) it will be located on the opposite side of the throttle linkage (where the cables attach to). inside the throttle body is a "butterfly" which allows air flow into the intake. the shaft that goes all the way through the throttle body turns inside the TPS. the further the shaft turns inside the sensor is calculated by terms of resistance, the PCM adjust fuel pressure and injector pulse accordingly. the sensor itself will have a harness plugged into it, and will be bolted to the side the a couple of very small bolts. hope this helps. rickyriot@comcast.net
