Should be in a removable housing at the engine end of the upper radiator hose
The thermostat on a Chevrolet Cavalier 1.7 diesel is located on the side of the engine. It can be found by following the upper radiator hose.
Look where the upper radiator hose connects to the engine. You will find the thermostat housing near that location. The thermostat may be inside the housing where the hose connects.
If you follow the upper radiator hose to the engine, the hose is attached to the thermostst housing. The thermostat is located under the thermostat housing.
It is in the housing on the engine that the top radiator hose goes to.

Follow the upper radiator hose from the radiator towards the engine. The upper radiator hose is connected to the thermostat housing on the engine side.
The solenoid/starter motor assembly is installed on the lower part of the engine next to the transmission bellhousing
The Chevrolet Cavalier 2.2 liter engine will fit into a Chevrolet S 10 pickup. You will need to change the motor mounts on the Cavalier engine in order for the engine to bolt in properly.
Underneath the thermostat housing just in front of the throttle body ! Follow the upper radiator hose to where it joins the engine , remove the two bolts and you will see it !
