IN MOST CASES WHEN YOU WANT TO CHANGE THE FLUID IN YOUR Pontiac TRANSMISSION YOU TYPICALLY HAVE TO REMOVE THE BOLTS ON THE PAN STARTING WITH THE TOP{WERE THE PAN TAPERS FROM A LOW TO A HIGH END} REMOVING EACH BOLT CAREFULLY AS YOU GO UP, REMOVE ONE FROM EACH SIDE. THIS WILL ALLOW YOU TO CATCH THE FLUID ONCE THE PAN BECOMES LOOSE FROM THE TRANSMISSION HOUSING. USE A WIDE PAD TO CATCH ALL THE FLUID, AS YOU REMOVE THE BOLTS THE FLUID { IN MOST CASES} WILL COME OUT SLOWLY, HOWEVER IF YOU REMOVE ALL THE BOLTS AND PRY THE PAN DOWN YOU WILL HAVE ONE BIG MESS, SO BE CAREFUL. THIS METHOD IS THE ONLY WAY TO REPLACE THE FLUID AND THE FILTER SCREEN AT THE SAME TIME. THERE ARE FLUSH SYSTEMS BUT I PREFER THIS METHOD. BE ADVISED THAT THIS IS NOT NECESSARY ON ALL VEHICLES IT IS THE BEST WAY TO REPLACE THE FILTER SCREEN AND FLUID AND AS YOU INSPECT THE SCREEN YOU CAN SOMETIMES DETERMINE IF THERE IS A PROBLEM WITHIN YOUR TRANSMISSION. PLEASE NOTE!!! WHEN PUTTING THE PAN BACK ON, NEVER NEVER!! OVERTIGHTEN THE BOLTS, THE TRANSMISSION IS ALUMINUM AND WILL CRACK OR BREAK OFF. ALLWAYS REPLACE THE GASKET THAT COMES WITH THE SCREEN KIT. GOOD LUCK
