Every drawing I have seen for the Ford 5.8 / 351 cubic inch V8 shows that the
# 1 position on the distributor cap faces towards the REAR and towards the
# 7 engine cylinder
The firing order is ( 1 - 3 - 7 - 2 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 8 )
The distributor rotor turns COUNTERCLOCKWISE
The engine cylinders locations are numbered :
4 - 8
3 - 7
2 - 6
1 - 5
front of vehicle
The engine number is on the engine block below the distributor.
The number 1 cylinder is located at the front left of the engine block while FACING the engine. Follow the spark plug wire to the distributor a POW there it is.
The engine number is stamped on the engine block on left hand side when standing in front looking at the engine. Below the distributor and to the rear.
It's imprinted on the engine block near the distributor just below the top of the block.
first of all you need to know what kind of engine you are working on
Try looking near the distributor on the engine-block just below the head there should be a small square block extending out of the engine-block. The engine number will be located on it.
Remove from engine and use an ohm meter on the ends
Number one in the distributor cap is the one closest to the front of the engine on the passenger side of the car. The number one cylinder on the engine is also in the front of the engine on the passenger side.
the number one is located to the right (towards engine)of the left instalation screw of the cap. if you are able to see it it has 1 on the cap.
Firing Order: 1-2-3-4-5-6 Distributor rotates clockwise. Number 1 cylinder is located front of engine right side when looking at the engine from the rear.
What car, what year, what engine?
The distributor cap should have the number 1 marked on it. The distributor cap is installed with the # 1 position facing the engine , slightly towards the drivers side of the engine
