My favourite part of Australia is Cairns. To the north is the beautiful Daintree rainforest. a fabulous drive and there are hotels nestled in the middle of the rainforest. it's awesome. You can go jungle Surfing ( like a flying fox through the trees) and take a river train to spot some crocodiles. To the east is the world famous Great Barrier Reef. Incredible to go snorkelling and check out the 1600 different types of fish and an amazing array of coral. Take a boat to one of the islands - a definite must for tourists. South are more beaches and islands. West is Kuranda. a village high in the hills that is accessible by either a long drive or train up and the Skyrail down (Skyrail is like the round bubble things they use to take you up the slope when skiing - it goes over the rainforest and gives you an incredible view).
Tourists do go to Antarctica. They travel by ship from departure points in New Zealand, Australia, Chile and Argentina.
No definitely not overrated. Australia welcomes tourists and you should try it for yourself, but allow for travelling vast distances.

No. Australia was never closed to tourists.
i asked you a question and you don't want to answer it
Tourists come from around the world to visit Australia. In particular, it is a very popular place for people from New Zealand, Europe, Asia and North America. The countries that top the list of tourists are, in order, Japan, New Zealand, UK and Ireland, USA, Singapore, Taiwan and Germany. See the related link below for more information.
If the question is referring to tourists, asking what cities of Australia are most popular for tourists to visit, the answer is Sydney and Melbourne. This also happens to be the answer (coincidentally) if you are asking what cities in Australia are the most populous.
