Putting coolant in your 1997 Chevy Lumina is the same common way of putting coolant in most of today's vehicle. Make sure the engine is off and is cool. If you have an empty cooling system or if you just need to top off the coolant, follow these steps: Step 1. Locate the radiator cap. Step 2. Remove the radiator cap while the engine is cool. Do no remove the cap when engine is hot. Step 3. Fill the coolant overfill tank to the indicated "engine cold line". Step 4. With the engine cold, start the engine. Step 5.
