Anne Boleyn had an excellent academic education in arithmetic, the genealogy of her family, history, reading, and writing along with instruction in etiquette, feminine accomplishments such as dancing, music, needlework, and singing, good manners, how to carry herself with dignity and grace, and "maidenly, obedient, and proper" behavior. She excelled at playing several musical instruments including the blockflute, the harp, the lute, and the virginals. From her mother's guidance, she became an expert at household management and good at composing her own poetry and verse as well as enjoying other people's poetry. Anne also learned games such as cards, chess, and dice, how to gamble, and outdoor pursuits such as Archery, falconry, horseback riding, and hunting.

In 1513 Anne was sent by her father Thomas Boleyn to complete her education as a maid-of-honor in the court of Maragret of Austria the regent of the Netherlands. Maragret had a male tutor named Semmonet from her own household help Anne learn to speak French although it is possible that she might have already learned some rudimentary French at home. Anne also developed her conversation and deportment skills and studied art, the beauty in fabric, culture, dance, literature, music, and poetry while while she was there.

The following year Anne was transferred to the French Court to be a lady-in-waiting to Princess Mary Tudor, the younger sister of King Henry VIII, for the occasion of her marriage to the French King Louis XIII. She remained in France to serve as a lady-in-waiting to Queen Claude upon the accession of her husband King Francis I of France after the death of King Louis XIII. There in the Queen's household, Anne completed her study of French and cultivated her education in French art, culture, dance, etiquette, literature, music, and poetry, being an expert in the arts of egostroking and flattery, card games, courtly games, fashion, and knitting. She demonstrated a working knowledge of Latin and knew some Italian as well as her fluency in both English and French. Anne had become experienced in the arts of flirtation and gained a wide depth experience from witnessing the damaging consequences it had on a woman's reputation, her spirit, and the chance that she had of making a good marriage for herself. She had herself surrounded with honorable ladies known for their chastity and honor and behaved impeccably well around flirtatious men to protect her maidenhead from them. Anne also had an interest in religious philosophy that called for reform of the of the Church. It is possible that Anne was a great admirer of the brilliant and cultured Marguerite de Angouleme, King Francis I of France's elder sister, who was highly gifted in the arts and impeccably well-educated, interested in the new learnings, and known to involve herself in matters of state. Women like Queen Claude of France, Diane de Poiters, Louise of Savoy, and Princess Renee of France may also have had their own influence on Anne's thinking since they would have been around her at the French Court in France.

Anne's European education ended in the winter of 1521 and she returned to England as a highly gifted in the arts and impeccably well-educated young lady in early 1522 to be a lady-in-waiting to Queen Katherine while plans for her future marriage to James Butler the heir to the earldom of Ormonde were being completed. Her black hair, her dark brown eyes, her dark and exotic looks, and her French gowns and hoods made her stand out among the English Court full of women with blonde hair, blue eyes, and fair skin and where the fashion was gable hoods and Spanish gowns. She came to be a star at the English Court because of her allure, her beauty, her brilliance, her charm, her drive, her elegance, her flirtatious nature, her good sense of humor, her grace, and her lively, opinionated, and passionate personality. Anne did like drinking wine, eating French cuisine, flirting, gossiping, and jokes, enjoyed playing cards and dice and gambling, was fond of archery, falconry, hunting, and the occasional game of bowls, and loved watching jousts, masques, and other medieval pageants. She excelled at holding her own intellectually in conversations with others above her own station about art, culture, diplomacy, fashion, important European matters, literature, poetry, politics, the sciences, and theology. Anne set the fashions at the English Court with her love of French clothes and she was noted to make a variety of changes to her accessories and dress every day. She was a graceful dancer and an impressive musician and she was renowned for her singing voice and her talent at composing poetry and writing masques. These skills that her excellent education and intensive study and training in foreign courts gave to her soon earned her a circle of many admirers around her such as Lord Henry Percy and Sir Thomas Wyatt and King Henry VIII of England himself would eventually be one of them.
