This was a Fourth-of-July with a difference.
On that day, the Northern public received news of two crucial victories - one of them in Pennsylvania, the other far away on the lower Mississippi.
The first was Gettysburg, which was Lee's second and last failed attempt to invade the North, to put pressure on the Union to remove troops from the Mississippi campaign and send them East to help the Army of the Potomac.
The second was the raising of the Siege of Vicksburg, the last Confederate outpost on the Mississippi. This ended the war in the West, so those troops (under Grant) came East after all, relieving Chattanooga, and eventually forcing Lee's own surrender.
If you mean which American Civil War battle then it was the Battle of Gettysburg which took place July 1st - July 3rd of 1863.
