well this isn't wrong but not very exact;
The Calzone originated in Apulia, high heel on the "boot" in Southern Italy but the Sicilians have cuddiruni/cudduruni pizza which too is folded like a calzone and very good!
The Calzone was invented by a Englishman named Ben Burnett whilst working for Sprint Pizza in the late 80's. Most of the drivers would come back from deliveries at some point during the night and get Ben to make them there favourate pizza, ready for their break. A delivery driver named Ivan intrusted Ben with artistic license to make a pizza fit for a king. Ben set about making the pizza with all of Ivan's favourate toppings. He then had the idea of folding it in half and crimping the edges just like the Ginster's pasties of the time. He quickly whisked an egg and brushed the glaze over the top before placing it in the oven. 10mins later the calzone was born, only at the time it was named 'Bens pizza pasty' and became a favourate among drivers at the Cotham hill store of Sprint Pizza.
Pizza is a type of bread and dish that has existed since time immemorial in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisine. By 997 the term had appeared in Medieval Latin, and in 16th century, Naples a Galette flatbread was referred to as a pizza.
Pizzas are originally a part of Italian cuisine.
