It was originally called the Basketball Association of America. The Philadephia Warriors beat the Chicago Stags 4 games to 1 to win the first BAA championship. It wasn't till August 3, 1949 that 6 teams from the NBL join the BAA forming 17 teams of the NBA and name Maurice Podloff president. Then April 23,1950 the Minneapolis Lakers become the first team to win back to back championships.

My sources say that Toronto, Canada hosted the first NBA game. I use the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. as my source
