Nikola Tesla used working "Light Spheres" in his work shop in New York years before the Edison bulb was invented. They were brighter and more efficient then Edison's bulbs. The only real advantage of the Edison bulb was that they worked with D.C., which is not what we use for power systems today anyway.
Tesla's bulbs are now becoming mandated in many countries... we did change the name from light sphere to high efficiency bulbs.
