The smugglers who brought in Dutch tea at a cheaper selling price were upset because the English had LOWERED the taxes on the English tea making their tea more pricey. This is why it was thrown into Boston Harbor (not the myth about higher taxes). Hamilton had a hand in it since he was one of the largest smugglers of Dutch products in the colonies.
