Civilizations like Greece, Rome, Chinese, Indian, Egyptian, and Mesopotamian people were separated by the Atlantic ocean and at the time no one had the technology to cross it. But in South America there were Aztecs, Tapotec, Mixtec, Olmec, Toltec, and Teotihuacan and Inca populations.
