The tank is right up against the floor, so if you cut even 1/4" beyond the contoured floor panel, you cut a hole right in the gas tank.


*Addition* So as the answer before shows you would have to drop the tank first then cut your trap door out. Reinstall the tank afterwards. Also with the tank down you can get a good general idea of where the fuel pump lines up.

*Edit: Yeah good point... Generally the pump is going to be in the middle of the tank. I assumed he was trying to get a pump out of the junkyard and can't get access to the underside to lower the tank. I tried just cutting a hole to get to the pump in a parts van I bought, and put a hole in the tank.
