The original State of Virginia was eventually split three ways into Virginia, Kentucky and West Virginia.
North Carolina was split into North Carolina and Tennessee.
Massachusetts was split into Massachusetts and Maine.
Part of Ohio once belonged to Connecticut (the Western Reserve, in the northeast corner of Ohio).
Part of Georgia became most of Alabama and Mississippi.
Texas was also much bigger when it first became a state.
