The best known English writer who used drugs is probably Thomas de Quincey (1785-1859), though he was not a poet. In 1822 his book 'Confessions of an English Opium-Eater' appeared. Samuel T Coleridge (1772-1834) is an example of a poet who used drugs. It is said that Aldous Huxley (again not a poet, but a novellist) took drugs. Apparently Keats and Shelley also took drugs. Please see the link below.
Some English poets known for using drugs include Samuel Taylor Coleridge, who famously wrote "Kubla Khan" under the influence of opium, and Thomas De Quincey, author of "Confessions of an English Opium-Eater." Additionally, writers like William Wordsworth and Lord Byron experimented with substances like alcohol and laudanum.
